North Carolina authorities have cited Scotty McCreery for a misdemeanor violation for attempting to bring a loaded gun through the Raleigh-Durham International Airport’s passenger checkpoint.
The incident occurred on July 13 and was first reported on July 21.
McCreery told authorities that he is a conceal to carry permit holder and prior to going to the airport he had gone to a firing range. Along with the loaded 9 mm Smith and Wesson handgun, the Transportation Security Administration employee discovered two boxes of ammunition with the help of the X-ray screen.
Unfortunately, McCreery said he did not realize that he had left his pistol in his backpack until the TSA discovered it with the X-ray screen. He also mentioned that he has learned a lesson that he will not forget.
