Brantley Gilbert says that Memorial Day is a holiday that's taken very seriously by his family back home in Georgia. The singer tells us: "Yeah, Memorial Day's coming up. That day is definitely heavy on my heart. It's the day to remember those who laid down the ultimate sacrifice for us and for our country. Trying to embrace that concept is almost impossible but . . . My mom's side of the family is a military family. That was actually an option or an idea for me when I was kinda in limbo what I was gonna do with my life. But I've got some cousins that have been over in Iraq and Afghanistan. My cousin Josh actually lost his best friend in Kirkuk City, Iraq, so I know that day's heavy for him. And it is for all the members of my family that have been in the military. It definitely means a lot to me, not just because my family's involved in it, because of what our military stands for. I'm a huge supporter, to say the least. Definitely, support for the troops is definitely right up there on top of our priority list."
Brantley is busy out on the road this Memorial Day weekend as part of Tim McGraw's Two Lanes of Freedom tour. They play tonight (Friday, May 24th) in Tinley Park, Illinois.AUDIO: BRANTLEY GILBERT ON MEMORIAL DAY
Carrie Underwood wrapped her 2012-2013 Blown Away tour last night (Thursday, May 23rd) in Abbottsford, BC with a one million dollar donation Red Cross for disaster relief. The charitable contribution to the Red Cross comes from the tour's proceeds and was established when it launched in spring 2012. A portion of each ticket sold was earmarked for the charity.
The donation comes just in time to help the victims of the tornados in Carrie's homestate of Oklahoma. She said, "I have watched the devastation . . . over the past several days with great sadness. With the help of my fans who attended my concerts over the past year, we can offer the Red Cross a little extra help in comforting those affected by the recent tornados."
Earlier in the tour, following a performance in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Carrie designated funds to support the response and relief efforts in New Jersey in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
If you're smart, you don't want any problems with Courtney Love. The rocker is definitely loyal to her friends and she proved it again on Thursday, May 23rd, when she caught her friend, LeAnn Rimes' back on Twitter. Rimes' husband, Eddie Cibrian's ex-wife and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville tried to re-ignite a Twitter beef with Rimes but Love wasn't having it.
Love tweeted, "Send the trouble makers to me, I eat that s**t for breakfast . . . Leanns my girl,u f**k with her you f**k with me!"
Rimes even got some support from Rob Thomas who tweeted, "Everyone who gives @leannrimes a hard time, be embarrassed that u read enough celebrity gossip to give someone you don't know a hard time."
Rimes dismissed the Twitter shots by saying "name calling and twitter rants are so 2012." She later tweeted at Love and Thomas, "Love you both."
